Had a great experience - there's some argument about whether I got up. "Two feet even if you tanked" seems to mean I did. Whether I did or did not, hopefully I will next time because I will be back.

Richard was super accommodating, flexible, and adaptable with scheduling lessons for me and my 12-year-old son. He always responded promptly. I loved all his instructors - Richie was determined to get everyone a good wave, Jeff helped everyone to relax and enjoy surfing, Mike was knowledgeable and strategic.I started taking surf lessons with Richard Schmidt last year. I was 40 years old and very apprehensive of the ocean because of my extremely poor eyesight. But the instructors were accommodating and compassionate. I love their relaxed approach and their determination to help me have a good time despite my condition.Altogether, Richard and his instructors opened a whole new opportunity for me - the ability to enjoy the ocean that I’d never thought I could have before. I truly appreciate Richard and what he has done and continues to do for the world of surfing.- Irene

Amazing surf lessons! All the instructors were kind, patient, encouraging, and super knowledgeable. I surfed mostly with Harper, and he was awesome. My friends and I will definitely be back!

I gave my two grandson’s gift certificates for lessons for Christmas and even though it took a while they finally made it to Santa Cruz. And they had an absolute blast! Both of them had never served before so this was a great experience. Sam did a terrific job with him, they loved it and they both plan on surfing forever now! Thank you for a wonderful experience both with the office and with your instructors I would recommend this to anyone!

Took a private surfing lesson with two friends and had a great time. The instructors were fantastic, knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely fun to be around. They made the experience enjoyable from start to finish, and we all left feeling like we had learned a lot. Wishing the team all the best!The only area for improvement would be guest interactions from some of the operational staff. As we were wrapping up, one staff member seemed to rush us quite a bit. He started taking my wetsuit off while I was still trying to leave a tip for the instructors and hurried us through the process. He also criticized us for not washing sand off the surfboards, even though the instructors had already taken the boards from us and carried them back to the truck themselves. It wasn't a major issue, but it left us with a less positive final impression after an otherwise excellent experience.Overall, I'd still recommend Club Ed for the quality of the instruction and the great instructors.

All surf lessons are 2 hours start to finish. Meaning we start with our pre-surf that takes 15-20min on the beach then spend the rest of the lesson catching waves.
Yes. Please come suited in your bathing suit and have a towel on hand.
YES. It’s a requirement to be able to swim to be able to attend a surf lesson at Surf School Santa Cruz.
NO. We do not allow you to keep the board and wetsuit due to regulations. But there are surf shops nearby that offer rentals.
Yes but limited and we ask if you are scheduled for a group lesson to carpool to help with parking.
We do not have a shower on offer but do have a hose you can use to rinse off.
Not always! Conditions are always changing and can make the surf change any time of the day, with that being said we build our availability on our calendar off the best tides for that day and will most likely generate for the best surfing conditions.
Yes, You will be charged a cancellation fee if you cancel or reschedule your appointment without giving a minimum of 48 hours notice prior to the start of your lesson. The cancellation fee will be 50% of your lesson amount. No-shows will be charged the full price. Thank you!
