The Life Of Bud Freitas
Bud Freitas is a product of Santa Cruz, a surf town known for having a big talent pool which pushes the limits of each individual surfer. Throughout his life he has been in just about every aspect of the surf scene from free surfing photo phenom, professional surfer, product rep and now Surf School Santa Cruz instructor. No matter what Bud Freitas has done with his life though, his face is always in the lineup at every break in Santa Cruz when there are any waves at all.
Bud Freitas is mostly known for being a power surfer. While he can do modern maneuvers such as aerials and more, he is known for laying it on the rail with a whole lot of power – a trait that is highly looked upon by the professionals in the industry themselves. Bud Freitas surfing competitive history is vast and very successful. His results in the 2007 O’neill Cold Water Classic in Santa Cruz, which is a WQS event showed that he is a force to be reckoned with on the World Qualifying Series. In this contest Bud had the highest scoring wave of the event, which was just under a perfect 10 out of 10 and made the semi finals. Besides this standout showing Bud has won numerous other contests mostly in the California area, and outside his home of California as well. He continues to shred contests to this day, and is feared by any other pro who faces him in a heat because of his high level of surfing skills and ability to play the chess match that goes on between the surfers in any given contest. When you see Bud Freitas on a wave, you never know what he might do next.
