Two Santa Cruz County surfers were announced as competitors in the Katin Pro-Am Team Challenge, an ASP specialty event that will take place at Huntington Beach from Tuesday through Jan. 9.

Bud Freitas, owner and instructor at Surf School Santa Cruz, will surf for Fox with Jesse Merle Jones, Jess Evans and one other team member yet to be decided.

Jimmy Herrick, a midtown surfer who reached the round of 32 at the Cold Water Classic at Steamer Lane in 2008, will join forces with Bobby Morris, Zach Plopper and Willie Safreed on team Glas.

Herrick surfed for Glas last year. Freitas surfed for Surfline. Santa Cruz surfer Josh Mulcoy also surfed last year, for Fox, which finished fourth in the team standings.

Led by individual winner Brett Simpson and runner up Rob Machado, Hurley won the team competition last year. Reef took second and Darkride third.
